3 in 30 | Comics, Classics, and Crafted Objects

Join Dr. Alisa Chiles, the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Decorative Arts, 1890 to the Present, as she explores three decorative art objects from VMFA’s permanent collection.

Each decorative object on this tour is inspired by a fictional character: one from Shakespeare, one from Russian folklore—and one from the Batman comics series.

VMFA’s “3 in 30” programs are offered on the first Tuesday of every month. Curators and educators discuss works in the permanent collection and in special exhibitions, considering different themes found across the collection, artistic movements, or a single artist’s body of work.

“3 in 30” programs are free and open to the public.
